Getting Started
No. Being sober is not a formal requirement to attend an AA meeting. Many people first come to AA while still drinking, hungover, or unsure whether they want to stop. The only thing asked is that you not disrupt the meeting.
You do not need to have everything figured out before you come to AA. Many people attend their first meeting while they are still drinking or while they are uncertain about whether they are ready to stop. You are welcome to come and listen. You do not have to speak, explain yourself, or make any promises. If someone is drinking and becomes disruptive, a group may ask that person to come back when they are not disrupting the meeting. But being new, nervous, uncertain, or not yet sober does not mean you cannot attend. Everyone at an AA meeting had a first meeting once. You can simply sit down, listen, and decide later whether you want to come back. Find a meeting at /meetings/ or call San Fernando Valley Area of Alcoholics Anonymous at 818-988-3001.
