Getting Started
The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no applications, no forms, and no one decides whether you qualify. If you want to stop drinking, you are welcome in AA.
There is nothing to sign, no application to fill out, no fee, and no one who approves or denies your membership. You do not have to be sober already, you do not have to have reached any particular "bottom," and you do not have to be certain you are alcoholic before attending. Many people come to their first meeting unsure what they believe about their drinking. If some part of you wants to stop drinking, that is enough. You become a member simply by deciding you are one.
